Local Knowledge on Forestry and Climate Change

Abstract (English)
This paper discusses the controversies between scientific understandings and practices of forestry and local perceptions and knowledge on tree & forest health and climate change in Türkiye. Based on the findings of anthropological research conducted in forest villages in the country (2014-2019) the paper argues for an integration of local knowledge into the planning of forestry practices. Furthermore, the paper attempts to include the concept and practices of "citizen-science" as the democratization of scientific knowledge in stratified hierarchies of legitimate and accepted knowledge.
