Privacy Statement for World Anthropological Union Congress Participants

This Privacy Statement explains how the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES), the World Anthropological Union (WAU), and the World Council of Anthropological Associations (WCAA) handle the personal data and contributions of participants in the World Anthropological Union Congress.

 

Emails and Personal Information

– The IUAES, WAU, and WCAA will collect and retain participants’ email addresses and other personal information, whether their participation is accepted or not. This information is used solely for the organization and communication related to the World Anthropological Union Congress.

– Personal information will not be shared with third parties except when necessary for the congress’s logistical and technical coordination.

 

Recording of Congress Activities

– The World Anthropological Union Congress will be conducted in a hybrid format (both in-person and virtual), and sessions, panels, presentations, and other activities may be recorded. These recordings may be used for archival, educational, and promotional purposes by the IUAES, WAU, and WCAA.

– Participants who do not wish to be recorded or have their contributions shared should notify the organizers in writing prior to the congress.

 

Use of Recordings, Media, and Contributions

– By participating in the World Anthropological Union Congress, participants acknowledge and agree that their recorded presentations, panels, papers, discussions, images, videos, sound recordings, and any other materials generated as part of the congress may be shared publicly.

– All materials generated during the congress will be made available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) license. This license allows others to share and adapt the work, even for commercial purposes, provided appropriate credit is given and any derivatives are licensed under the same terms.

– Participants must ensure that any third-party materials included in their contributions are either in the public domain or covered by compatible licenses and must give proper attribution as required.

 

Acknowledgment of Terms

– By accepting participation or contributing to any congress activity —including but not limited to panels, presentations, workshops, performances, or other events— participants acknowledge and agree to the Creative Commons license as outlined above.

– Specific activities or contributions may require additional agreements to clarify usage or attribution terms; however, participation constitutes acceptance of the general sharing and licensing framework.

 

Commitment to FAIR Principles

– The WAU Congress is committed to following the FAIR Principles (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reuse) for managing digital assets.

– All congress-related digital assets will be organized and maintained in a manner that ensures their long-term usability, accessibility, and integrity.

 

Data Security and Privacy

– The IUAES, WAU, and WCAA take reasonable steps to protect the confidentiality and security of participants’ personal information, and any contributions provided.

– Participants should be aware that no method of data transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and while best practices are followed, absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
