Money in an Illiberal World: Values and Valuables under Authoritarianism in the Americas and Beyond

Abstract (English)
Anthropologists have long studied populism and charismatic authority. Yet they have paid less attention to the economic aspects of such phenomena. Now with Trump’s return to power and the rise of illiberalism across the world, our roundtable seeks to bring together scholars working on money and value under authoritarianism. We hope to tease out the key parameters of money and value in an incipiently post-liberal era and to shape alternatives to emergent authoritarian economic forms.
