Improving Quality of Healthcare through Education among Tharu of Uttar Pradesh, India.

Abstract (English)
The present paper is about the Tharu indigenous people. The villages with the Tharu population that have been selected for the study are located inside Dudhwa National Park. The National Park is located on the Indo-Nepal border in the Lakhimpur Kheri District of Uttar Pradesh state of India. The total population of 1300, of which 667 are males and 633 are females, has been covered for the study. As per the study, 314 literates and 986 illiterates are found among the population. The literacy rate of the sampled population is 31.84 %, and the female literacy rate is 12.67%. The total number of illiterates in the villages is 986. Also, in the study villages, the percentage of people who can read and write is significantly lower. This clearly indicates that less number of people are exposed to formal education among Tharu. Due to illiteracy, people in the village face significant healthcare disparities. Education plays a crucial role in addressing the disparity by equipping people with the knowledge and skills necessary to improve health outcomes. Therefore, this abstract explores how, if the education status of the people is improved, it can impact the quality of healthcare among the Tharu indigenous people. The paper also discusses how education can empower the Tharu people by educating them about health literacy so that they will be capable of making informed decisions about themselves and their family's health and well-being. If they can read and write, they can learn about disease prevention, hygiene practices, nutrition, and maternal and child healthcare through awareness programs and educational initiatives. This will lead to healthier lifestyles and reduced disease burden among them. Another thing the paper will throw light on is how education fosters the development of local healthcare professionals found among the Tharu who understand the unique needs and cultural practices of the Tharu tribe. Conducting training programs and educating community health workers and traditional healers will enhance their ability to provide culturally sensitive and effective healthcare services. This will help in bridging the gap between modern medical practices and traditional knowledge. Furthermore, the paper explains how education facilitates the establishment of health infrastructure by encouraging community participation and advocacy. Educated Tharu individuals are more likely to engage with governmental and non-governmental organizations, advocating for improved healthcare facilities, access to essential medicines, and better sanitation infrastructure in the village.
In conclusion, the paper will explain that education can play a pivotal role in improving the quality of healthcare among the Tharu tribe of Uttar Pradesh. By promoting health literacy, training local healthcare providers, and fostering community engagement, education will help to reduce health disparities and enhance overall well-being in this marginalized community. Investing in educational initiatives is essential
