Archronemics Theory of Decolonizing Time

Abstract (English)
Throughout the history of time, people have been using media for communication. In linguistic and communication studies, chronemics is the science of the relationship between time and communication (Delaney 2022). Chronemics suggests that there are two main modes of communicating time: monochromic and polychromic. The theory of archronemics introduces time as a standardized measurement bound to language that can be communicated throughout ages using natural media. Indigenous beliefs and non-Western customs associate time as cyclical and fluid - what if medium, such as rock art in the Southwestern United States is a linguistic translation of time? These theory ask if archaeological processes of dating iconographic communication, such as rock art, astronomic architecture, and mound building, can be combined with the communications’ concept of chronemics to analyze the way that time/space/self was perceived or practiced through ancient imagery.
