The Role of Parents and Educators in Supporting Youth Esports Participation
Abstract (English)
As esports continues to gain prominence among youth, the role of parents and educators in shaping healthy engagement with this rapidly growing industry has become increasingly significant. This study explores how parents and educators can support young people's involvement in esports, focusing on balancing participation with academic, social, and physical development. By recognizing the potential of esports to foster valuable skills such as teamwork, strategic thinking, and digital literacy, parents and educators can serve as critical facilitators of positive gaming experiences. The discussion emphasizes the importance of establishing clear boundaries, promoting time management, and encouraging healthy gaming habits to mitigate risks such as excessive screen time, digital addiction, and academic underperformance. Moreover, this study highlights the potential of educators to integrate esports into curricula, using it as a tool for skill-building and community engagement, while addressing challenges of inclusivity and equity. Drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives and empirical studies, this study underscores the need for collaborative efforts between parents, educators, and industry stakeholders to ensure esports participation aligns with broader developmental goals. It also aims to inspire actionable strategies for fostering a supportive environment where youth can thrive both within and beyond the gaming world. Keywords (Ingles)
