Anthropological Publications: Good Publishing Practices and Editorial Experiences in a Changing Landscape
Resumen (Español)
Publishing is essential to academic and research work. However, the publishing system is changing rapidly due to new technologies and shifting academic practices. This panel invites editors of anthropological journals, peer reviewers, writers, and readers to join the discussion on good publishing practices and editorial experiences. It will bring together editors and publishing professionals to discuss best practices and challenges in scholarly publishing. Key topics include the impact of digital media, the rise of open access, the increasing strain on the peer review system due to lack of proper incentives, the effects of AI-generated content, and the persistence of inequalities in global publishing—such as disparities in North-South participation on editorial boards and concerns over intellectual extractivism. Additionally, the panel will explore issues surrounding paywalled research, the ethics of knowledge access, and strategies to ensure more equitable and sustainable publishing models.
By sharing experiences and strategies, this discussion aims to foster a more inclusive, transparent, and ethically grounded approach to academic publishing. It is an open space to exchange ideas, share challenges, and explore solutions for a more inclusive and sustainable academic publishing system.
