The World Anthropological Union (WAU) 2025 Congress organizes participation fees based on countries’ income levels to promote fairness, inclusivity, and equity. This approach ensures that participants from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) can engage without financial barriers, fostering a richer exchange of diverse perspectives. Using World Bank data as an objective benchmark, the fee structure reflects a commitment to equity over equality, acknowledging economic disparities in purchasing power across regions. By reducing fees for LMIC participants, the congress aligns with anthropology’s ethical principles of social justice and accessibility while supporting broader global representation. Additionally, this model helps fund scholarships and inclusive initiatives, such as free daycare and hybrid participation options, enabling the congress to welcome participants from all backgrounds and truly “unearth humanity” in its scope and impact.
