Hybrid bodies and unhealthy ecologies: considerations about the slaughterhouse agency in the pampa

Abstract (English)
In the lowlands of the far south of Brazil, people, animals, and landscapes have embodied the effects of the imposing logic of the meat industry. From a multi-species ethnography in the Pampa region of Rio Grande do Sul, I analyse the social and ecological action of an industrial slaughterhouse, highlighting the outbreaks of bovine rabies (Lyssavirus) as a feral effect of the ecological action of the slaughterhouse, and the extermination of the traditional way of life in which traditional peoples see healthy ecologies transformed into dangerous and harmful ecologies.
