The Representation of Human-animal relations in Ethnographic Films: on the Example of Film Collection of the International Film Festival “Days of Ethnographic Cinema”

Abstract (English)
The report describes the representation of human and animal relation on the example of the International Film Festival “Days of Ethnographic Cinema” (Moscow, Russia). The films from the collection of the international film festival program (2009 - 2024) represent the variety of home and wild animals and their complex relations with people and in the role in World culture.
The International Film Festival “Days of Ethnographic Cinema” takes place in Moscow (Russia) since 2009, organized by several scientific institutions, such as Russian State University for the Humanities, Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (the Kunstkamera), Higher School of Economics and others. It is also an international communication platform that gives an opportunity to Russian and international scholars to exchange the latest results of their projects in the field of anthropology and related disciplines. The festival isn’t only an academic but also an educational project that is also interesting for general public. We have already held 10 film festivals demonstrated the wide number of anthropological topics. For example Anthropology of Аrt, Anthropology of the Body and Embodiment, Processes of Migration, Anthropology of Religion, Anthropology of Work and Labor and etc. Today the film festival collection includes the numerous ethnographic films all over the world.
The films representing the human and animal relations in modern urban and rural societies are in the focus of the report. The films from the collection of the international film festival program (2009 - 2024) represent the variety of home and wild animals and their role in the local cultures as well as Russian and World wide.
