Towards a Healthier Future: Multidisciplinary Strategies for Global Nutrition and Well-being

Abstract (English)

Background
Malnutrition, in all its forms—including undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, overweight, and obesity—continues to pose a critical threat to global health. The 2023 Global Hunger Assessment, based on the prevalence of undernourishment, indicates that progress toward achieving Zero Hunger (SDG 2) continues to be lacking. The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World Report (2024) highlights that the global prevalence of undernourishment has remained persistently high for three consecutive years, following a sharp increase due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This alarming trend underscores the urgent need for strategic interventions to combat malnutrition worldwide. This proposed panel will delve into the multifaceted dimensions of public health and nutritional status, fostering collaboration among multidisciplinary researchers, policymakers, and practitioners.
Panel Objectives
To effectively tackle this pressing global challenge, this panel seeks to:
• Assessment of undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, overweight, and obesity at the community level and their implications for public health.
• Assess maternal and child health through the evaluation of the effectiveness of existing maternal and child health programs and identifying their implementation challenges
• Explore dietary diversity and food security strategies at a global scale.
• Understanding various beliefs, customs and practices related to health and well-being across different cultural backgrounds.
Expected outcome
By exploring these critical areas, this panel aims to generate data-driven recommendations for policymakers and health organizations. Further, it will foster cross-disciplinary research collaborations in nutritional science and public health.
